Rufus n'est pas un personnage des plus sympathiques. Ronchon et imbu de sa personne, il vit en périphérie d'une petite colonie située dans une zone recluse de Deponia, une planète dépotoir. Il rêve d'une vie meilleure dans l'une des riches et magnifiques cités flottant au-dessus de sa tête. Lorsque l'angélique Goal tombe de ces sphères privilégiées dans un tas d'immondices, Rufus y voit une opportunité de changer les choses. Il décide de ramener la belle chez elle. Ce qui était au départ une simple tentative pour quitter Deponia devient un plan machiavélique quand Rufus apprend qu'il est le sosie du riche époux de Goal. Son projet n'est que le début d'une course folle à travers Deponia, riche en rebondissements et situations cocasses.

Deponia est une comédie des méprises effrénée et une histoire d'amour des plus atypiques. Dans cette aventure riche en quiproquos, les personnages hauts en couleur parcourent la planète dépotoir de Deponia, un univers de jeu unique qui n'est pas sans rappeler les œuvres de Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett et Matt Groening. Depuis, Kuvaq, un village de fortune construit dans un gigantesque tas de détritus, jusqu'au marché noir, en passant par les sombres recoins des voies ferrées en suspens, ce jeu d'aventures développé par les créateurs de The Whispered World, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout et A New Beginning propose un monde aux décors haute définition réalisés à la main et une animation digne des meilleurs dessins animés.
